A Toaster's Guide to Rondak's Portal
Ayasho's Guide to the Portal Message System

Message System:

Each citizen has a 'citizen message system' (or mailbox).  They also will have one for each game the play, lurk, or referee in.  Messages from each system (mailbox) are kept separate from each other and are accessed from the appropriate 'message system' link (i.e. the 'Citizen Message System' is accessed from the 'Citizen Option' menu, and each world's sytem is accessed from it's world menu).  The names used in the To and From fields will correspond to your name in that message system (i.e. your citizen name or your character name).

Header Bar: The Header Bar has the column titles (Message Date, Sender, & Subject) as well as a few message selection and action icons.  The icons are: <img src=/images/uncheck.gif>  unselect all messages, <img src=/images/check.gif>  select all messages, and <img src=/images/Del.gif> delete selected messages, and <img src=/images/Sav.gif) the save selected (not available in the Citezen or Lurker systems).

Message Window: Is immediately below the Header Bar and contains the a list of  messages that are selectable for viewing or action (by clicking on the small box at the begininng of each row) and are sorted by date.  If more messages are available than are listed, they can be navigated through using the Previous and Next links as well as the Jump To.  Options for ascending and descending order, number of messages listed, display in a separate window, and message display theme are available in the Citizen Builder.  Simply clicking on the message subject will display that message into the message text window.

Message Text Window: Display the text of the selected message for reading/viewing.  Action icons avaiable here are the Reply, Save, Delete, and Unread Delete as well as the left arrow (view previous message) and the right arrow (view next message).

Footer Bar: Is below the Message Text Window and contains icons for the actions: Create, List, Saved, Chronicles, Roll Dice, & Search.

Actions:

  • Chronicles: Access the current world's chronicles (as provided by the Referee).
  • Create: Begins the creation of a new message.
  • Delete: Permenantly deletes the mesasge from your sytem.
  • List: List the main folder messages (i.e. those that have not been saved).
  • Reply: Will begin the creation of a message that replies to all of the original recipients
  • Roll Dice: Create and message a attached a randomly generated die roll(s) to it.
  • Save: Transfers the message to the Saved message list.
  • Saved: Load the Saved Message List into the Message Window.
  • Search: Search this message system.
  • Select All:  Selects all messages in the Message Window for action.
  • Unread Delete: Will delete the message from a reciepients message system if they have not yet read it.
  • Unselect All: Unselects all messages in the Mesasge Window.
Create Message Window:
  • Private Message: This dictates if the message is sent to the Lurkers of the world or not.  (i.e. usually messages will not be marked Private so that the lurkers can view it as well).
  • HTML/AutoFormat: Controls the formating of the message being created (i.e. use strict html formating and tags, or use RP's auto formating funct?)
  • Recipient List: A list of the possible recipients for the message.  Note that for Adventurer Message Systems, all available players are selected.
  • Send: Sends the message to the selected recipients.
  • Preview: Previews the mesage in a separate window.  Allows for viewing of formating to make sure the message looks like you want it to.
Saved Message List: This loads the saved message list into the Message Window and gives access to the Message Group Builder.  The Saved Message List is displayed by default in the Message Window, but any Message Group can be diplayed by selecting it in the pull down list.

Message Group Builder: The Message Group Builder allows mesages that you wish to be saved to be sorted into different Groups.  These groups act like folders in that each will provide the ability to display a separate message list.  Groups can be created using the Create Message Group action.  Groups can be deleted or their name updated using the Modify Message Group action.
