Lynx' Guide for new members Welcome to Rondak's Portal! Here you will have access to dozens of games using various rules systems that you would use normally in role playing games. Now, you may wonder a lot of things such as how to create characters and join games! Fear not, this guide should help you make your place here amongst other gamers. Step 1 - Edit your Citizenship First, make sure that your Citizenship details are up to date. Rondak sometimes sends important notices to all the users regarding upgrades or new features. It is therefore important that you keep you include your real email address so that you can remain informed. For more information on the Citizenship Builder, see Toaster's Guide to the Citizenship Builder. Step 2 - Create a character Without a character, you will not be able to join a game, unless you lurk (see below). It is recommended that you first check out the list of available worlds for a game that you would be interested to join, and then create your character. This way you won't be wasting your time creating a character for which there are no games available. If you know a bit of HTML, you can make tables and make your character sheet unique to you! For some examples, visit the Hall of Heroes. For more information on the Character Builder, see Toaster's Guide to the Character Builder. Step 3 - Apply for a game It is very easy, once you have a character suited for the correct set of rules, there will be an "Apply" button along with a drop down menu for you to chose which character to apply with. The referee then gets an email alerting him or her that there is a new applicant. The referee should then be able to get back to you about being accepted into the game or rejected. Sometimes referees have deadlines for accepting characters and you may not hear from them until the deadline has come. You should always feel free to contact the referee to ask questions on how you can best fit into the game. Not all characters are suited for a particular game setting after all! Step 4 - Play games Once you have been accepted into a game, the Player's Options in the menu at the top of your screen will become accessible. Games function using a message system. The referee can enable and disable different options with the message system, generally, you will be given the option to post a message to the whole party, the referee only and even make a message completely private (that the lurkers cannot see). There are many other options in the game menu that you will have the chance to discover: maps, rolling dice, party roster, etc. For more information on the message system, see Ashayo's Guide to the Portal Message System. For more information on the adventurer's options, see Toaster's Adventurer's Guide. Lurk in a game This is another way you can get into a game that is already ongoing. Lurking allows you to see what is going on in a game, much like a spectator. Referees often pick from their lurkers list when a player drops their game. You could have the chance of adopting an existing character or even be allowed to create your own to join the game. Knowing ahead of time what has been going on is a real benefit. Lurking in a game is easy to do. From the game description in the available worlds list, click on the "Lurk" button instead of the "Apply" button. Once you lurk into a game, the Lurker's Options menu will be accessible from the top of your browser. Interact with other players You'll want to get to know other players as well! Everyone here is quite friendly and approachable. All you need to do is say hi. Creating your own game If you're ready to start your own game at the portal, there are step-by-step instructions given here in Toaster's Guide to the World Builder. Once you have a game accepted, you will be able to access your Referee's Options menu from the top of your browser. Remember, you can always ask Rondak a question by emailing him: rondak@rondaksportal.com or you can ask the various members in the chat room. Feel free to visit the Portal Help menu, it might contain answers to questions you might have. Happy gaming!
